At Ultriva, Every Day is Manufacturing Day

As part of my marketing job with Ultriva, I get to peruse the headlines for manufacturing news. I happened to notice the roster of Manufacturing Day 2013 sponsors recently added four more key support organizations. The Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) and the Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) are both joining, along with Women in Manufacturing (WIM) and the Precision Machined Products Association (PMPA). That is great news for the backers of Manufacturing Day, now in its second year.

Manufacturing DayNever heard of Manufacturing Day? Manufacturing Day is a grassroots effort by U.S. manufacturers to improve public perception of manufacturing in America by coordinating awareness-raising activities at a variety of locations across the country.  The October 4th event is also designed to showcase the importance of manufacturing to the nation's economy and to draw attention to the many rewarding high-skill jobs in manufacturing fields.

At Ultriva, I feel every day is Manufacturing Day.  I think highlighting Manufacturing Day as an annual national event is great.  It is executed at the local level, supports hundreds of manufacturers across the nation that host students, teachers, parents, job seekers, and other local community members at open houses designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers. Ultriva proudly adds their voice to this mission.

From lean to best practice, from global manufacturing leaders to mid-sized industrial organizations looking to implement the same cost-saving processes as larger manufacturing companies, Ultriva lives and breathes the value of the sector every day. Our software helps manufacturers keep doing what they do best, make things. I am proud to say Ultriva has empowered manufacturers to operate more effectively and collaboratively for the past fifteen years since its inception.

Ultriva has always supported manufacturing in America because it makes all of us stronger. Supporting American manufacturing, and buying American products made in our community helps everyone. Most people do not realize the annual average salary of manufacturing workers is more than $77,000 and that manufacturers have the highest job tenure in the private sector. Ninety percent of manufacturing workers have medical benefits. This is information that college-bound and other young people need to hear.

I have read that by 2030, 77% of skilled industrial baby boomers will have left the workforce creating a significant skills gap.  The headlines report that more than two-thirds of manufacturers report a skills shortage now.  Ultriva continues to be committed to ensuring that the manufacturing sectors, and the ensuing jobs, continue to thrive.

It is great that one special day, Manufacturing Day, will be able to address common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it is not. Ultriva does this every day by ensuring that technology solutions allow manufacturers to address the skilled labor shortage, connect with future generations, and ensure the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.  Ultriva is proud to make this a daily practice and encourage all others in the sector to do the same.
